5 Questions With “More Than Friends” Director Omri Laron!

A comedy short film about a quirky lesbian mother spying on her son at a birthday party after he writes a love letter to the birthday boy, More Than Friends is both a comedic and immersive watch. Written and directed by Omri Laron and produced by Oscar winner Kobi Mizrahi, this film deserves all its well-received praise. It is an honor to share our “5 Questions With” series featuring Omri Laron!

What inspired you to start making films?

The fact that as a child I would go back to exciting moments in movies again and again. The thought that I would be able to create such moments myself is my inspiration.

Were there any challenges in making this project?

The most difficult challenge for me in filmmaking is the moments of decision. Knowing how to define what you want at any given moment.

Is there any type of message or emotion that you hope the viewer takes away from watching this film?

When I write, I’m less looking to convey a message and more looking to create an emotion. For example, if the viewer feels conflicting feelings about the main character, this is a success for me. If a moment in the film manages to be both funny and sad at the same time, that’s the kind of goal I’m looking for.

How does it feel to be able to screen the film at HollyShorts?

Very exciting! I heard a lot about this festival and the special atmosphere in it.

What’s on the horizon for you?

I’m working on two series and really hope to see them progress this year.

Thank you Omri for sharing your responses! Moreover, be sure to check out More Than Friends at the upcoming HollyShorts 2023 Film Festival on August 11th at 5pm for “LGBTQIA+.” Click here to get tickets for the 19th Annual HollyShorts Film Festival, running from August 10th – August 19th at the TCL Chinese 6 Theatres
