When it comes to laundry, nobody enjoys it more than Llamas! Llamas at the Laundromat is a hilarious animated musical, featuring Llamas as they sing the steps while doing their laundry. From adding soap to clearing lint, this film is a watch for all, whether families, kids, laundry-lovers (or not.)
Congratulations to Director Martha Grant, and we are so excited to spotlight you on our “5 Questions With” series, sharing the film and it’s process!

What inspired you to start making films?
I started making films with my 2 friends growing in middle school. We would try to recreate spy movies mostly and wear hats and masks to play different characters.
Were there any challenges in making this project?
Llamas at the Laundromat started out as a pitch for a segment on a kid’s tv show. It didn’t go through for the show, but I just really wanted to make it so I think the biggest challenge was believing in it to make it happen independently. I worked with some amazing artists and I’m so glad it’s out there now to see!
Is there any type of message or emotion that you hope the viewer takes away from watching this film?
Joy in self-expression, some silliness helps get chores done, and the vibe of a place like a laundromat where neighbors hang out and just work around each other- I think these types of spaces are more uncommon in today’s ‘app life’ and they are really great and grounding and valuable.
How does it feel to be able to screen the film at HollyShorts?
It’s so great! The laundromat and the llamas are based on me and my roomate livin’ in LA so I’m so happy it is playing in it’s place of inspiration!
What’s on the horizon for you?
As a director- I’m working on a short based on a modern take of a Virginia Woolf short story. As a producer- I’m working with a director on a stop motion series called Space Moms! We’ve just finished the first episode!
Thank you so much, Martha, for sharing your responses!
