With the Academy Awards behind us, it felt like a great time to give an update on some of the wonderful things that the illustrious alumi of HollyShorts are up to now. It’s so incredible to see how far these talented creators have come, and how far they will go in the future! A big congratulations to everyone for their current and upcoming projects, accolades and opportunities. It’s well deserved!

First up is the terrific short An Irish Goodbye as they celebrate their big win at the Academy Awards for Best Live Action Short Film to go alongside their BAFTA for Best British Short Film! A big and well-earned congratulations to everyone involved in the film!

Alumni and Emmy Award winner Colman Domingo is getting a starring role in the series The Madness, which has just gotten a series order at Netflix. The eight episode series will be on screens soon, thanks to the first look deal between Netflix and Chernin Entertainment.

Alumni director Kristian Mercado gets to show off his next feature film, If You Were The Last, starring Anthony Mackie and Zoë Chao. The film, which focuses on Adam (Mackie) and Jane (Chao) as they discover love during a NASA mission gone awry. The film premieres at this year’s SXSW, and looks to be an incredible entry to this year’s SXSW festivities! Congrats to Kristian for a fantastic film!

Director and alumnus A.V. Rockwell deserves their flowers for winning the U.S. Grand Jury Prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival for their film, A Thousand and One, which hits theaters on March 31st!

HollyShorts Alumnus Kelley Kali has just been signed by Gersh, in partial thanks to their star turn co-writing, co-directing, producing and starring in the 2021 dramedy I’m Fine (Thanks For Asking), a film that garnered honors at SXSW’s inaugural Special Jury Recognition for Multi-Hyphenate Storyteller at that year’s festival. This is great recognition for a rising star!

Alumni Trey Edward Shults has added a few names to their yet unnamed film, penned alongside Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, who also stars. The incredibly talented Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan join the actor/musician. Tesfaye, Reza Fahim, Kevin Turen and Harrison Kreiss are producing with Shultz and Ortega exec producing, and we look forward to seeing how this film turns out. It’s sure to be amazing!

The brilliant short, starring Brian Huskey and Martin Mull, just made its debut online! Following the story of a well-meaning supermarket clerk who is mistakenly accused of sexual harassment stars two comedy giants and is such a hilarious film. Be sure to check out Melons at its new online home!
And finally, we recognize another incredible short film, El Astronauta, has joined the Omeleto family as the film just gained worldwide distribution through the company. A big congrats to the everyone who worked on the film and got it this far!
